“It is none of my business what you think of me.” – Gary Oldman
Most people struggle with self-esteem issues.
Self-criticism and never feeling good enough can lead to perfectionism, anxiety, pain, and unhappiness in our lives.
Most people struggle with self-esteem issues from time to time, even people we view as really having their “shit together.”
However, when we constantly berate ourselves and beat ourselves up, there may be a deeper issue that needs to be addressed.
When was the last time you were praised for an accomplishment, only to dismiss the praise because you didn’t feel it was deserved or important enough?
This is what self-esteem counseling can do for you…
By examining where your self-defeating beliefs began, we can start to unravel old thought patterns that lead to toxic self-criticism.
I will help you challenge some of the language you use to describe yourself and show you how to replace this language with loving, compassionate, and positive words of affirmation.
I often ask clients to make a list of their accomplishments up to the point they are in their lives. Most people don’t focus on this and only think about what they don’t have or what they have yet to accomplish.
This is often a person’s “Aha” moment…
…they realize, “Wow, I’ve done a lot in my life.”
Mothers who label themselves as “only a stay-at-home mom” see in writing all they have accomplished and what they do on a daily basis – they are usually surprised at how the lives of those close to them would not run nearly as smoothly if not for their contributions.
A young adult who is entering their junior year in college may feel like a failure because they haven’t declared a major. Once they see their accomplishments in print, they almost always see the amazing things they have accomplished to get to them to this point in their lives.
What if you spent just one day being gentle with yourself and praising yourself for completing even the smallest tasks? What if indeed…!!
You deserve to have a self-esteem that soars!
Self-esteem counseling can help you develop self-compassion and kindness toward yourself. We all deserve compassion and understanding. When we learn to give it to ourselves, we hold the key to true happiness and contentment.
